Congratulations! This is your first (or maybe your second!) Mother’s Day that you get to experience as a mother.

And as a mother on Mothers’ Day, you get to decide what traditions your family is going to follow. That’s totally up to you. The best part is, it’s never too early or too late to make a new tradition or change what you’re doing and do something totally different.

The first year that I was a mother, we celebrated by going to Paris.  We were already pretty close to France, so it’s not as big of a deal as it sounds like while sitting in Chicago. But it was still a great treat and I loved it.

The next year, we followed it up with not doing anything, because how can you follow up Paris?  You can’t. And we hadn’t unpacked and were still doing the 3am wake ups, so doing nothing for one day was the height of decadence for us.

Move Over Daddy Daughter, it’s the Mommy Son Date

Now we’re a little more settled…my son’s 2 and a half, so I don’t think that will be the perfect thing for this year, but we accidentally popped into what I hope is a new tradition of mommy-son date night. My husband and I were supposed to go on a date night, but then he ended up having to work late and I had a Groupon…it expires today actually, so we went out to dinner. Just the two of us.

I love looking forward and thinking about this as a tradition as he gets older and starts to become a pre-teen and teenager that wants some space, and having this one night before Mothers’ Day of us bonding and me finding out what’s going on with his life. I just love that. And I hope that’s a tradition that we can continue.

So tell us in the below comments, what are some traditions that you hope to see your family be part of, whether that’s this year or in the future.

Thanks for reading! I’m Kathy from reminding you that you are beautiful because you are you. You just happen to also be mommy.
